Are GIF's supported in templates

Client wants the gifs to be added in template but we are not able add assuming gifs won’t be supported in templates.
Can anyone confirm on this ?

Also, can GIFs be converted to MP4 format from our platform because all the arts from clients are in gifs they are checking whether we can change it to mp4 format…
